EPI2k12: the 12th International Conference on Electronic Patient Imaging

Sydney 12 - 14 March, 2012

You know all this stuff we use to image patients in Radiation Oncology: onboard kV imaging, MV imaging, 4DCT, MRI and PET and a whole bunch of other initials that churn through the alphabet like a sabre tooth tiger cutting through a woolly mammoth...

Well, back in the old days, we only had film. Actual sheets of film. Silver imbued sheets of XOMAT and the like. The RTs would stand in the corridor waiting for their turn in the dark room to process a film which would tell them if a patient was being treated correctly. Physics would spend hours processing all the QA films and sheets of the stuff littered the department and physics desks.

Then this wonderful invention called an Electronic Portal Imager (EPI) came along and real film took its first step on the journey of the dodo (accompanied by the film processors and hallucogenic chemical fumes). The EPI was such a cool piece of equipment that it even had its own conference, the very first EPI conference back in the 1990s. This was exciting stuff!

Fast forward a couple of decades and imaging has begun to walk upright and use tools. It's not just about portal imaging anymore - the EPI conferences have reflected the evolution of imaging technology in the real world, tracking the changing face of imaging equipment and uses. And EPI2k12 is no different.

In 2012, we focus on the wonderful ways we can make all this amazing imaging technology do our bidding: motion management, adaptive therapy, image registration using multiple imaging modalities. Treatment technology has progressed in leaps and bounds, limited only by our ability to see what is being treated in order to treat accurately and safely.

EPI2k12 will feature experts in imaging and motion management from around the world, a research symposium on the first day of the conference, hands on clinical workshops at Sydney hospitals, Q & A sessions with the vendors, refresher courses, CPD points - what more could you possibly ask for?

So come along to EPI2k12 and TAKE A CLOSER LOOK!
